A roof rack can be used to mount a tent on a 4WD. This proves to be a very convenient setup. The tent stays folded upon the vehicle during the day and simply unfolds when you stop to camp at night. Some tent designs will provide some additional covered space by overhanging the side of the vehicle, as well as a sleeping space for two people. This is much quicker to set up than a separate tent.
