Roof Racks 4×4 and Camping

A modern 4WD is basically set up quite well the moment we drive it off the showroom floor. But we are all individuals, and we all have different plans. So we might like to add a few accessories to the stock vehicle that we have bought.

Tyres – The manufacturers will almost always fit bitumen road tyres to their vehicles. They are well suited to the city driving that we do most of the time. But if you intend to take that 4WD on dirt roads or a sandy beach you will be better served with all-terrain tyres.

Basic tools – A shovel is something we end up using every day when camping. It will prove convenient to have the shovel mounted externally. This will keep the dirty tool away from the passengers inside the vehicle, and always in easy reach when outside. An axe is equally useful, and can also be mounted externally. Jumper cables (for batteries), a jack and a winch are not used too often, but when they are needed they are indispensable.

Roof Racks 4×4 – Perhaps the easiest way to add more storage space to a vehicle, and a means of keeping items away from the passenger area. Tracklander Roof Racks 4×4 are specifically designed for each make and model of vehicle. This means they are lightweight, low clearance, and extremely long-lasting. They also provide unlimited tie-down points to secure the load.

Tents – By the third day of camping it will be a chore to set up and pull done the tent each day. We can get rid of the hassle by having a tent mounted on the roof of the vehicle, which may hang over the side of the vehicle. These can be set up in a matter of minutes.

Awning – A simpler alternative to a roof-mounted tent in an awning. These roll out from the side of the 4WD roof rack, which means you can still use the rest of the roof rack for other storage needs. Some larger awnings extend from both sides and behind the vehicle. In good weather, an awning is fine for camping out.

Solar Panels – This is the more modern camping approach. A solar panel will power a fridge and a radio, all without draining the battery. It has become common to permanently mount solar panels on the roof rack.

Bull bars / Roo Bars – These protect the vehicle should we suffer a frontal collision, especially protecting the headlights and radiator. This can be important if we hit a kangaroo.
