Tracklander roof racks are designed to give the maximum additional carry space to your 4WD vehicle. This is achieved through a combination of low weight and high strength. The roof racks are also streamlined for minimal noise and lower fuel consumption.

Lift – Some people like to raise the clearance of the vehicle, increasing the area underneath the chassis. This offers some advantage when travelling over angled surfaces, though many people overestimate this advantage. It also causes some disadvantages by raising the height of the vehicle, so you cannot fit under low roofs or garages. This will also decrease the stability of the vehicle by raising the centre of gravity.

There is a general maximum limit of 50mm (2 inches) allowed when raising a vehicle. This is a 50 mm total, combining larger tyres, body lifts, and adjustment to the suspension. A greater increase may sometimes be possible with an engineering permit or if the vehicle has electronic stability control. But we question the advantage of such an extreme lift.

We are almost always better off buying a vehicle of greater clearance than trying to modify a vehicle with moderate clearance.

Diesel Filter – Diesel Particulate Filters greatly reduce the pollution that goes into the environment. Removing these is illegal. Removing these will cause us to breathe in a lot of nasty fumes. So, leave them on the vehicle. Some diesel filters are notorious for breaking down, but repair or replacement is better than a fine. Transport authorities do keep an eye on these things.

Overloading Vehicle Roof Racks 4×4

The vehicle will have a maximum load rating, often between 100kg and 200kg for a heavier 4WD. If we exceed this limit, the vehicle handling becomes difficult, and this is a huge road safety issue. No one wants a difficult, unsafe vehicle on the road.

It is easy to forget that the weight of the roof rack is part of this load. So, it makes sense to keep the roof rack as light as realistically possible.

Our custom-designed roof racks are the safest option. There is a different custom rack for each make and model of vehicle. These are always well within design specs. And they will be fairly lightweight, streamlined and easy to work with.
