Why Consider the Toyota Prado Roof Rack
There are several models in the Toyota Prado range. These are 4WDs that have proved popular for over 20 years for their combination of external ruggedness and internal luxury. They’re reliable. low-maintenance performance is also impressive.
Among other things, the Prado is designed to carry considerable loads. Often this load is in a trailer or on a Toyota Prado roof rack. This is because the interior of the vehicle is designed to carry extra people. The various Prado models seat seven individuals. So if you want to carry luggage, you may need to put it outside the vehicle.

Like most 4WDs the Prado will carry a respectable 100kg on the roof. If fitted with a good roof rack this will prove quite adequate for most situations. 100 kg is fine for surfboards, camping equipment or a roof-mounted tent. The main issue is to have enough tie-down points on the roof rack to secure the load. A custom-designed rack will manage this quite well.
We have a custom-designed roof rack for the 150 or 120-series Prado. These are ultra-durable, and feature multiple tie-down points and double-thickness powder coating to prevent rust and damage. And the aerodynamic design helps to keep fuel costs a little lower.
The maximum roof load capacity includes both the weight of the luggage and the weight of the roof rack itself. This simply means that a light roof rack will allow you to carry more weight than a heavy roof rack. So given equal strength, a light roof rack is always preferable.
We strongly advise going above the 100kg roof rating. Not only will the vehicle handling be badly compromised, but insurance companies also will not cover accidents when vehicles exceed their normal safety standards. As the Prados have a 3000kg braked towing capacity we recommend any large loads be hauled in a suitable trailer.
