What Every 4WD Needs
4wd Roof Racks and Other Accessories
Today’s 4WDs are fairly well equipped straight from the factory. A few decades ago the 4WDs were rough and ready, the type of thing farmers bought because they could be maintained at home and easily outfitted. Now the 4WDs are already set up with the right general equipment. But we still might want to customize them to suit our situation. A 4WD for desert camping it set up differently to a 4WD that takes the boat for a beach trip.
Custom 4wd Roof Racks
The roof rack on past generation 4WDs became so ubiquitous, so often used for so many situations, that they became standard on new-generation models. Most new vehicles have either a basic roof rack or the facilities required for mounting a roof rack. This often means bars that run from the front to the back of the roof that allow the mounting of different roof racks.
The roof rack design is a careful consideration of many factors. One factor is weight. A vehicle will have a maximum weight allowance that really cannot be exceeded. The roof rack will add to this weight. If the roof rack is too heavy it will not allow the vehicle to carry much weight. So a light roof rack, that is still strong and durable, is preferable.
A Roof rack should also be aerodynamic, for better fuel efficiency, and allow multiple tie-down points to secure the load.
Custom roof racks, which we design and sell, are the best option.
UHF Radio – There will probably not be mobile phone coverage everywhere you travel. So communication by radio is needed for emergencies. We suggest a good Ariel mount for your radio.
Tires are mostly designed for paved road. But you might like to fit all-terrain tires if you go off-road.
Fuel container mount – If you need extra fuel then it is best kept outside the vehicle away from the passengers.
4wd Roof Racks
Custom roof racks, designed for each make of vehicle, will provide extra storage space for any 4WD. Lightweight and aerodynamic means better performance.
